FEMINAZGUL: No Dawn For Men LP

Rating: 4.75/5 Feminazgul (Laura beach – lead vocals and Meredith Killjoy – piano, synth, accordion, drums, guitar and backup vocals) are from Asheville, NC and perform as a duo, although the recent release has another musician, Meredith Yayanos, contributing theremin, violin and vocals.
The record begins with a very earthy accordion and eventually morphs into a hypnotic death metal lurch. The textures are varied and lush.
There is a continuity to the album sequence that is very pleasing. It’s a cathartic journey. This record manages to accomplish something most recordings do not; it really makes sense and is very, very musical.
Also, it’s carving out a new space in death metal. No frilly synths here. This is a breathing organism. I stumbled upon this record on bandcamp, and it is easily my favorite of the year so far.
