A song with a spooky sound to it- So much to pick from in this category… There are a lot of songs with spooky sounds that I love… So many come to mind, from Frankie Teardrop by Suicide to Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach… everything ever recorded by Midnight Syndicate would fit this category… So many great bands have spooky sounding songs in their catalog…like Throbbing Gristle, Laibach, the Residents, Bauhaus, Nick Cave, Joy Division, Boxcar Satan, Swans, Pere Ubu, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music… the category is a song with a spooky sound to it, some songs just have spooky lyrics… I could really overthink this one, so I’m just going to pick… El Pervesio by Deadbolt…I think that the sparce lyrics (“yeah, yeah”)adds to the creepiness…Enjoy

A song with orange or black- There are tons of songs mentioning black, for the purpose of this challenge, I wish that the band Agent Orange did a cover of Los Bravos’ Black is Black, or the Stones’ Paint It Black… But they didn’t (their Everything turns to Gray is close, but not close enough). There are a few songs that mention orange AND black, like Halloween by Mastodon… But to make it more of a challenge I’m going with the color Orange alone… And not orange the fruit like Apples and Oranges by (Syd Barrett)Pink Floyd… So my choice is Orange Alert by the Briefs

Personal “get me out of my crap mood” song- Loud music helps a lot, crank up the Ramones, Dead Boys, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Alice Cooper, NY Dolls, Motorhead, Stooges, Sex Pistols, False Prophets, Cramps, etc… But to pick just one song to blast away a crap mood, I choose Ever by Flipper (as loud as possible)

My Personal Prozac song. This one is easy. My head exploded the first time I heard it. It’s hard to be in a crappy mood when the opening chords of this come crashing out of the speakers.

A song with kill, killer, killing in the title – Didn’t even need to think about it, Killer by the Alice Cooper group, from the brilliant lp Killer! This cool clip is a live version from the’72 ABC TV “In Concert” show… Killer is often the song in Alice’s stage show that leads to his execution… Enjoy!

A song about a vampire- Bela Lugosi by Mick Farren & the Deviants, this song about our most famous vampire was originally on Mick Farren’s excellently titled lp Vampires Stole My Lunch Money… This remixed version is from his more recent Dr. Crow lp (one of the rare times that I prefer the remix to the original)…

A song with a Directive- a lot of songs have a directive, like clap your hands! everybody sing! everybody dance! Dance songs especially tell you what to do, Do the twist, Do the twist again, Do the swim, the Pony, the Mashed Potato, the Freddie… Punks did the Pogo, But in 1977 Welsh punk band The Table put out this cool song with a great directive, Do the Standing Still!

Third song from the third album of a favorite band- Hmmm, there’s the excitement of a debut album, the alleged curse of the 2nd album (sophomore slump), but third albums can be a real mixed bag… it could be another great album in a long line of great albums not entirely dissimilar to each other, like- Rocket to Russia by the Ramones… it could be an artistic breakthrough lp, a real masterpiece, like Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica… it could be a commercial break through lp – Parallel Lines by Blondie…or both an artistic AND commercial break through- Love it to Death by Alice Cooper… it could be a swan song lp like High Times by MC5… Some bands implode before an official third album, Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, Adverts (leaving their third album to be a “best of” or “live tracks”… Maybe the 3rd lp signals a personnel shift, like Waiting for the Night by The Runaways or an expansion of their sound, like 154 by Wire… Sometimes its even debatable to say what the 3rd album is, do EPs count? (Misfits, Cramps)…
But there are some rare times when the 3rd lp is an absolute classic, kick-ass, all time best lp from start to finish- like RAW POWER by Iggy & the Stooges, which is my pick for this category, and its 3rd track is YOUR PRETTY FACE IS GOING TO HELL

Well, the Devil is not in the title but is definitely the subject of the song. Featuring Terry Bozio as Satan and Adrian Belew in a dress here is a fond memory of a performance I was lucky enough to attend:
