REVIEW: Mercury Tree: “Microtonal Magic”

by , September 30, 2020

Rating: 5/5 In the hellscape that is 2020, 2019 is still bringing us hope . Listen to Spidermilk by Mercury Tree- this is a microtonal progressive rock cd that defies it’s description. The songs are dialed in. “ The Husk “ is an anthem.  Ben Spees is a smart lyricist, composer and a great singer.  He is also an accomplished guitarist and keyboard player. The songs really connect on a level that I haven’t felt since King Crimson’s Beat

The band really plays well together. Iglashion Jones, the other guitarist in Mercury Tree, introduced the band to 17 equal tones per octave temperament. Mercury Tree were a good band before, but this change in their temperament makes the songs that much more effective. The rhythm section of Oliver Campbell on 17 tone per octave bass and Connor Reilly on drums are perfect and unquestionable. Get this record now.
